Keeping family history accurate, accessible, and alive
This portal was built for one purpose: to give families a simple, structured place to record who belongs to whom — without spreadsheets, sticky notes, or scattered documents that get lost over time.
Why a dedicated family tree portal?
Family history tends to live in fragments — a relative's memory, an old photo caption, a note in someone's phone. Details like birth names, genitive name forms, or which of several partners a person was married to at a given time are easy to lose. This portal keeps that information structured, searchable, and connected, so it stays accurate for the next generation to inherit.
What you can record
- Core identity: gender, first and last name, birth name (if different), and genitive name form for non-English naming conventions.
- Life events: date and place of birth, and living/deceased status.
- Relationships: two parents with custom labels (Father, Mother, Stepfather, etc.), a label for the child relationship, and any number of partners — current or ex — each with their own label.
- Anything else: custom fields for occupation, education, contact details, hobbies, or whatever your family wants to remember.
How the data connects
Every relationship you add is bidirectional. Link a partner or a parent from one person's profile, and it automatically appears on the other person's profile too. The Family Tree page lays out the entire connected family as one expandable chart, generation by generation. The Families page breaks that same data into individual family units — one couple or parent together with their children — so you can focus on one branch at a time. The Archive page gives you a sortable, searchable list of everyone in the family.
Privacy
Family records are only visible to people who are logged in. Passwords are stored as salted hashes, and every form submission is protected against cross-site request forgery. This is a private family record — not a public directory. When exporting to GEDCOM, exact birth dates, birthplaces, and custom fields for anyone not marked deceased are left out by default, since an exported file is easy to pass along or upload elsewhere.
Tools
The Tools page has a Relationship Calculator (pick any two people to see exactly how they're related, down to "second cousin once removed"), and GEDCOM export/import so your data can move to or from other genealogy software like Ancestry, MyHeritage, or FamilySearch.
